(The Extraordinary Love of Jesus is not only seen at the cross but also in His continuing patience toward humanity today.)

We Often Talk About the Cross — And We Should
When Christians speak about the love of Jesus Christ, the conversation almost always leads to the cross.
And we have every reason to do so.
The cross stands as the greatest demonstration of God’s love for humanity. Jesus suffered, was mocked, was rejected, shed His blood, and willingly gave His life so that sinners could be reconciled to God. No human being has ever paid a greater price for another person than the price Christ paid at Calvary.
For centuries, believers have reflected on that sacrifice, preached about it, written about it, and worshipped because of it.
Yet there is a part of Christ’s love that many of us have not thought deeply enough about.
It is not only the love that was displayed at the cross.
It is the love that has continued to be displayed every day since the cross until now.
–The Scripture That Reveals His Heart

The Bible says:
2 Peter 3:9 (KJV)
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
When many people read this verse, they focus on repentance. And indeed, repentance is at the heart of the passage.
Yet this Scripture also reveals something profound about the heart of Jesus Christ.
It reveals His patience.
It reveals His mercy.
And it reveals a dimension of His love that many people overlook.
The patience of God is not weakness. It is not indifference. It is not a lack of concern. It is the patience of a Savior who continues to desire that people come to repentance and receive the salvation He purchased through His sacrifice.
–The Extraordinary Love We Often Overlook

What makes this so remarkable is that Christ’s patience exists even after everything He has already done for us.
After the suffering.
After the rejection.
After the mocking.
After the cross.
Many people still have not received Him.
Many hear the Gospel and continue living as though they do not need Him.
Many know what Jesus accomplished through His death and resurrection and still choose to go their own way.
Some openly mock Him.
Others quietly ignore Him.
And if we are honest, many of us can look back and remember seasons in our own lives when we did the same.
Yet Jesus continues to call.
Yet Jesus continues to wait.
Yet Jesus continues to give people opportunities to come home.
This is where the extraordinary nature of His love becomes impossible to ignore.
–When Human Love Reaches Its Limit

Imagine sacrificing everything for another person.
Imagine investing your time, your energy, your resources, your emotions, and ultimately your life for someone.
Then imagine that person continuing to reject you after all of it.
Most people would eventually reach a breaking point.
Most people would eventually say, “I have done enough.”
Many would walk away.
Many would stop trying.
Many would conclude that there was nothing more they could do.
We see this reality even within families.
Consider someone trapped in addiction or a destructive lifestyle. Parents, siblings, spouses, and friends often spend years trying to help. They offer support, encouragement, prayer, time, money, and emotional strength. Yet when that person continually refuses help and continues down the same path, frustration often begins to replace patience. Some become discouraged. Some begin to complain. Others eventually walk away—not because they never cared, but because they reached the limit of what they felt they could do.
That is human nature.
–Why Christ’s Love Is Different

Yet this is where the love of Jesus Christ separates itself from ordinary human love.
After the suffering of Calvary, after the rejection, after the mocking, and after the agony of the cross, His heart toward humanity remained unchanged.
He could have said:
“Father, I did everything I could.
I suffered for them.
I was mocked for them.
I shed My blood for them.
I died for them.
Yet they still refuse Me.
They still reject Me.
They still mock Me.
I have done everything that could be done for them.”
If this were a human being, many would have been ready to walk away.
Many would have been ready to say, “Enough is enough.”
But Jesus did not.
Instead of giving up on us, He continues to wait.
Instead of walking away from us, He continues to call us home.
Instead of immediate judgment, He continues to extend mercy.
That is extraordinary love.
The extraordinary love of Jesus is not only that He died for us.
The extraordinary love of Jesus is that after everything He has done for us, He still has not given up on us.
–Why Jesus Is Still Waiting

The answer is found in 2 Peter 3:9.
He is longsuffering.
He is patient.
He is not willing that any should perish.
He desires people to come to repentance.
Every day that passes is another demonstration of His mercy and another opportunity for people to return to Him.
–God’s Patience Is Not Permission
Yet there is another truth that must be understood.
God’s patience should never be mistaken for approval.
The Bible says:
Psalm 50:21 (KJV)
“These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.”
Just because judgment has not come yet does not mean it will never come.
God’s patience is mercy.
God’s patience is love.
God’s patience is an opportunity.
But that opportunity will not remain forever.
One day, the same Jesus who is waiting with open arms today will return as Judge.

Final Reflection
And maybe today, He is calling you home.
Because the greatest proof of His love is not only that He died for you.
It is that after everything He suffered for you, He is still waiting for you.
