The Devil’s Emotional Blackmail: How Your Past Is Used Against You—and How God Sets You Free

(The Devil’s Emotional Blackmail reveals how the enemy uses your past to control your future. Discover how to break free from guilt, shame, and emotional bondage through Jesus Christ.)

Introduction

There are moments in life that seem small, almost insignificant, yet they quietly shape how we understand deeper realities.

Some lessons are not learned in classrooms or books. They are learned in simple experiences—moments that reveal patterns we only begin to understand much later in life.

For many, one of those lessons begins in childhood.

A Lesson Most of Us Have Lived

Most of us—if not all of us—when we were children, did things our parents would not have approved of.

It may have been taking fruit from a neighbor’s tree.

It may have been sneaking sugar from the kitchen.

Or doing something small, yet wrong, knowing it was not right.

Then one day, someone sees you.

A friend. A neighbor. Another child.

And they say, “If you do not do what I want, I will tell your parents.”

In that moment, everything changes.

Fear enters the heart—not because that person has authority, but because they know something about you.

And from that point, your behavior begins to shift.

You begin to comply.

You begin to give in.

You begin to do what is asked of you.

Not because you want to, but because you are afraid.

Afraid of being exposed.

Afraid of what might happen if the truth comes out.

You are no longer acting freely.

You are being controlled.

Not by power—but by what someone knows about you.

What That Moment Reveals

What seems like a simple childhood experience is, in reality, a reflection of something much deeper.

It reveals a pattern.

A strategy.

And that same strategy does not disappear with age.

It continues—but in a more dangerous form.

The Strategy of the Enemy

In our spiritual lives, we are children of God.

Yet there is an enemy who does not operate randomly. He operates with intention.

He does not simply lead a person into sin—he prepares what comes after.

He leads, and then he returns.

He reminds you of what you have done.

He magnifies it.

He repeats it until it begins to shape how you see yourself.

He whispers:

“How bad it is.”

“How shameful it is.”

“What would happen if people found out.”

And slowly, something changes inside.

You begin to feel trapped.

Not Controlled by Authority, but by the Past

The enemy does not control through authority.

He controls through memory.

Through shame.

Through fear.

Through what has already happened.

A person becomes bound, not because they lack freedom, but because they are constantly being reminded of their past.

Mistakes begin to define identity.

Shame begins to guide decisions.

Fear begins to silence the heart.

And many live this way.

Carrying guilt.

Carrying anxiety.

Carrying hidden pressure.

Not because God has rejected them—but because they are listening to a voice that is not His.

The Truth That Changes Everything

This is where the truth of God interrupts the strategy of the enemy.

Scripture declares in Isaiah 1:18:

“Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”

The very thing that is being used against you is not beyond God’s ability to cleanse.

What appears permanent is not permanent.

What appears too deep is not too deep.

God does not struggle to forgive.

He restores completely.

The Inner Battle Many People Face

For many, this struggle becomes even more intense in the area of addiction and hidden battles.

There is a desire to stop.

There is an awareness that something is wrong.

Yet there is no peace.

And in that space, a voice continues to speak:

“You will never change.”

“You have gone too far.”

“No one knows—remain where you are.”

This voice does not bring freedom.

It keeps a person where they are.

It exposes the problem—not to heal it, but to hold the person inside it.

This is not correction.

It is control.

It is emotional blackmail.

God Saw You—and Was Already Ready to Forgive You

There is a truth that many struggle to accept.

Nothing in your life has ever been hidden from God.

Everything has been fully seen.

Everything has been fully known.

If you open your Bible and read

Hebrews 4:13, you will see clearly that nothing is hidden from God’s sight.

God saw you.

He saw you even when you were doing it.

He saw it when it began.

He saw it when it continued.

And yes—it hurt Him.

But this is what must be understood:

He was already ready to forgive you.

Like a loving Father, His hands remain open.

He is not discovering your sin today.

He already saw it—and still chose mercy.

The Voice You Must Refuse

The enemy will continue to whisper:

“No one knows.”

“You are too far gone.”

“It is over for you.”

But that voice is not truth.

God knows.

He saw it.

He understands it.

And He is not using it against you.

He is calling you back.

A Prayer for Those Who Feel Trapped

If you feel overwhelmed, trapped, or controlled by your past, take a moment to pray:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come before You today.

Thank You for Your message.

Thank You for Your love.

You loved us before we loved You.

You knew us before our existence.

Nothing is hidden from You.

Even when the enemy whispers and tries to use our past against us, Your Word reminds us that You already saw it.

You knew it before we did it.

You knew it while we were doing it.

Yet You still call us back.

The enemy fills us with fear, telling us we cannot change, that if we try to stop, we will fail, that our lives will be ruined.

But You are able to restore what is broken.

Your Word tells us that anyone who comes to You becomes a new creation.

God, forgive me.

Wash me clean through the sacrifice of Your Son.

Give me the strength to overcome every struggle, every addiction, every place where I have lost peace.

You are the God of peace.

Restore my life.

Guide me through Your Spirit into a new beginning.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.

Amen.

Conclusion: Come Back to Your Father

True transformation begins when we surrender and allow God to speak into our lives.

The enemy seeks to use your past to control your future.

But God desires to use His grace to restore your life.

Do not remain in fear.

Do not remain in shame.

Come back to your Father.

He saw you.

He knows you.

And He is still ready to receive you.
