( Why the Gates of Hell Will Not Prevail the Church)

Before He left this earth, Jesus Christ spoke a word that still stands today in Matthew 16:18:
“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”
This is not just a verse.
This is a spiritual guarantee.

In a world filled with uncertainty, confusion, and rising opposition against Christianity, one truth remains unshaken:
The church of Jesus Christ will never fail. It will never fall.
Why?
Because it is not built by man.
Jesus Christ Himself said:
“I will build My church…” — Matthew 16:18
What Jesus Christ builds…
no force on earth or in hell can destroy.
–The Church Is Not a Building — It Is the Body of Christ
Many people misunderstand this.
The church is not a building.
It is not a location.
It is not just a gathering.
The church is the body of Christ.
“Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.” — 1 Corinthians 12:27
Being in the church is not about sitting in a building.
It is about being spiritually connected to Jesus Christ.
–How Do You Truly Belong to the Body of Christ?
This is one of the most important questions in the Christian life.
You may wonder:
How do I know that I truly belong to the body of Christ?
The answer is not religion.
The answer is not routine.
The answer is the Holy Spirit.
And this is very important:
You have to receive Jesus Christ as your King and Savior,
and be guided by the Holy Spirit.
That is how you belong to the body of Christ.
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” — Romans 8:16
You don’t need someone else to confirm it.
The Holy Spirit within you will testify.
–Jesus Christ Gave Us the Final Result
When Jesus Christ spoke in Matthew 16:18, He did something powerful.
He gave us the final result.
He told us that the gates of hell will never prevail.
That means before the battle even begins…
the outcome is already decided.
So no matter what is happening in your life—
even if things shake you…
you will come out as a winner.
–Why the Battle Is So Intense Today
There is a reason why Christianity is under pressure.
There is a reason why real believers face resistance.
The church is being fought around the world because of the plan of the enemy.
He wants to bring it down, just as Jesus Christ said there would be an attempt against it.
That is why you may wonder:
Why is Christianity—and true followers of Jesus Christ—being fought so much compared to other religions?
The reason is this:
It is because the devil knows what Jesus Christ said about the church.
And also, he knows that Christianity—the real Christian church—is the only one that can truly change a person’s life in this world and give the promise of a good life to come.
That is why it is fought at another level.
It is not about popularity.
It is about truth and transformation.
Christianity carries power:
- The power to change lives
- The power to bring peace
- The power to give eternal life
But let’s be clear:
Not everyone who calls themselves a Christian
is truly part of the body of Christ.
The true church is made up of those:
- Led by the Holy Spirit
- Guided by the Holy Spirit
- Walking with Jesus Christ genuinely
- Living in obedience—not just words
–To the One Who Feels Discouraged
Maybe you gave your life to Jesus Christ…
and everything became harder.
You have been rejected.
You feel isolated.
You feel overwhelmed.
Your family may not understand you anymore.
Your friends may treat you differently.
And your life may feel like it is going backward instead of forward.
- Financial pressure
- Problems at work
- Losses and struggles
And you are asking:
“Why?”
But remember what Jesus Christ said:
“…the gates of Hades shall not prevail…” — Matthew 16:18
He knew this would happen.
The enemy is fighting you
because you are now part of the church.
But listen carefully:
he can fight—but he cannot win.
And even in financial struggles, remember this promise:
“So Jesus answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.’” — Mark 10:29–30
Jesus Christ is your provider.
Stay in Him.
–The Condition to Walk in This Promise
Jesus Christ promised that the church will never be prevailed against.
The enemy cannot win.
That is a promise—and a fact.
But to walk in that promise, you must remain in the body of Christ.
The enemy will try to pull you out:
- Through deception
- Through pressure
- Through temptation
He may remind you of your old life.
He may make it look attractive again.
But remember:
You may have had money before…
but you had no peace.
Now you have peace in Jesus Christ.
And more than that—the promise of eternal life.
And remember this:
“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.” — Proverbs 10:22
Now your blessings are different.
They are:
- Genuine
- Peaceful
- Complete
Because they come from Jesus Christ.
Final Encouragement — You Will Win
No matter what you are facing today…
Stand firm.
Stay in Jesus Christ.
Because His promise still stands:
“…the gates of Hades shall not prevail…” — Matthew 16:18
You are not defeated.
You are not losing.
You will come out as a winner.
