Psalm 39:4 (NIV)
“Show me, O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.”
Psalm 90:12 (NIV)
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
When Life Is Short but We Live as If It Is Long

There is a truth many people avoid:
Our time on earth is limited.
Yet many of us live as if we will be here forever.
We delay what matters.
We spend time on things that have no purpose.
We ignore what God called us to do.
But David prayed a different kind of prayer.
He asked God to show him the end of his life—and how short it really is.
And the Bible goes even further in Psalm 90:12.
It teaches us not only that our days are numbered,
but that we should learn to count them—
so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Time vs Money: The Unfair Trade

We spend our lives trading time for money…
and yes, that is how we survive.
But deep down, we know—
it is not a fair trade.
Because if it were fair,
the money we earn
would be able to buy back our time…
to extend our days on this earth.
But it cannot.
Which means this:
Time is more valuable than money.
So what is the only fair trade?
To spend your time
doing what God created you to do.
To serve Him.
To walk in your purpose.
Money may reward you for a moment…
but purpose rewards you for eternity.
Any other trade will leave questions.
But a life spent in God’s purpose…
leaves no regret.
Why Counting Your Days Matters

When you understand that your time is limited:
- You begin to live differently
- You stop wasting time
- You focus on what truly matters
Time becomes valuable.
Purpose becomes urgent.
We Waste What Others Wish They Had

There are people today who are at the end of their lives.
They wish for one more day.
Not to waste it…
But to fix what they didn’t do.
To obey God.
To fulfill their purpose.
Even one hour would mean everything to them.
Yet many of us still waste full days without thinking.
God Gave You Time for a Purpose
God did not give you time to live without direction.
He gave you time to:
- Fulfill your purpose
- Walk in obedience
- Serve Him
Time is not just passing…
It is being counted.
Don’t Waste Your Days

If there is something that grieves God…
It is seeing us live without purpose.
Running around…
busy…
Doing things we were not created to do.
God knows why He created you.
He knows what He called you to do.
And your time on earth was given to fulfill that.
Final Encouragement
Your days are a gift.
But they are also numbered.
So don’t live like you have forever.
Count your days.
Live with wisdom.
And use your life for God.
Reflection
Are you using your time for what God created you to do?
