A Reflection on Jeremiah 2:27

Do you have that one friend… or maybe a sister, a brother, or a relative…
who only calls you when they need help?
When their car breaks down…
When they’re short of money…
When something has gone wrong in their life…
Every time you see their name on your phone,
you already know what’s coming.
You know the conversation is going to end with:
“Can you help me?”
Not because they check on you.
Not because they want to know how your day is going.
Not because they want to spend time with you.
No.
Only because they need something.
When a Relationship Becomes One-Sided

And when you finally help them,
when you sacrifice your time or your money,
they disappear again.
No “thank you.”
No “how are you doing?”
No “I was thinking about you.”
Nothing.
Until they need something again.
The truth is —
that kind of relationship hurts.
It makes you feel used, unappreciated, and taken for granted.
But today, I want us to think deeper.
Because sometimes, without knowing it…
we treat God the same way.
What the Bible Says
Jeremiah 2:27 (NIV)
“They have turned their backs to me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say, ‘Come and save us!’”

That verse shows exactly what we are talking about.
They forgot God in good times.
They chased other things.
But when trouble hit,
they came back to Him because they knew the truth —
He is the only one who can save.
And the reality is…
that’s how we are too.
We chase our plans,
our work,
our entertainment,
our own desires…
But when life becomes heavy,
when trouble rises,
when fear shows up —
we suddenly run back to God.
Not because we wanted Him…
but because we needed help.
God Still Receives Us
And yes — God is a loving Father.
He always listens.
He always rescues.
He always answers.
But after He helps us,
what happens to our relationship?
Many times our fire goes down.
Our prayer becomes weak.
We become tired.
We become lazy.
We get busy.
We pray short prayers.
Cold prayers.
Distracted prayers.
But hear this —
that is not the relationship God wants.
God Never Forgets You
Isaiah 49:15 (NIV)
“Though she may forget, I will not forget you.”

That is why He keeps receiving you.
That is why He never pushes you away.
That is why He keeps loving you.
But He wants something deeper than
“Help me, Lord.”
He wants fellowship.
He wants relationship.
He wants to be close to you every day —
not just in emergencies.
He wants you to come when you’re happy.
When life is good.
When blessings are flowing.
When your heart is full of joy.
When you want to say:
“Father, I love You — not because I need something, but because You are good.”
A Relationship That Changes Everything
Because when you develop that relationship with God,
your faith becomes strong.
Your prayer becomes powerful.
Your heart becomes stable.
And in times of trouble,
you won’t even need many words —
your relationship with Him will speak for you.
Think about a friend you talk to every day.
You’re close.
The bond is strong.
If you call them in an emergency,
you don’t need to explain everything.
They understand you.
They know you.
The connection is real.
That’s the kind of relationship God wants with you.
Final Encouragement
So today, I want to encourage you:
Let’s stop running to God only when things go wrong.
Let’s walk with Him every day.
Talk to Him every day.
Thank Him every day.
Love Him every day.
Because He deserves more than crisis-time attention.
He deserves a real relationship with us.
GOD BLESS YOU
